The Cultural Events Board encourages opportunities for interaction among students resulting in respect, appreciation, and understanding for cultural differences.
Notes
Still have not received quotes from catering and flowers as of 09/19/22
Ashley has checked in with them, they have not given her a response
Second year doing this event
Not a lot of multicultural events that take place in the law school
Event:
Will be a two day event as that is what is common for latin communities in the US
First day is for honoring the adults that have passed
Community access to the ofrenda
People can build their own items to add to the communal ofrenda
Second day for honoring children that have passed
Food and drinks catered from local restaurants
First day is more adult themed
Includes adult beverages
Second day is targeted to all ages
Will have a nine-person mariachi band
Event has two main goals
Give the latin community a chance to come together and bond over mutual loss
Give non-community members an insight into what the tradition is like and help learn about the significance of the event
Questions
When exactly is your event? On the budget request it says that it is from 6:00 p.m. on November 1st to 12:00 p.m. on November 2nd.
On November 1st, honoring adults
6-8pm
On November 2nd, honoring children
9am-12pm
Make sure that you provide CEB with full quotes for things you’d like us to fund - because we can’t fund general estimates without a quote from the merchant/seller.
These can be increased/slightly adjusted later on.
Where did the 120 projected attendance come from?
RSVP list from last year
Discussion
No event conflict with the MECHA y UMAS event
Very impressive that they had 150 people show up for their event last year
Being law students makes them punctual lol
Motion to approve the Latinx Law Student Association’s event, “Dia De Los Muertos Celebration” for mission statement alignment.
