Uplift Undergraduate Research Program
Uplift makes you a competitive applicant for existing research opportunities. No pre-requisites, no rec letters, no GPA minimum, no prior research experience.
We want to empower you to pursue your path in STEM through structured research training and support in your negotiation of your professional identity in your field. Uplift is a cohort research program that:
- Teaches you how to conduct research through hands-on training and your own research project,
- Connects you with a CU research lab (including a research mentor),
- Funds your research training experience ($3,000 over 24 weeks),
- Offers workshops on technical research skills (like reading scientific papers and applying to graduate school),
- Cultivates an inclusive learning community,
- Provides a variety of mentors at different career stages to help you navigate your STEM path,
- Guides your personal negotiation of your scientific identity,
- Helps you secure funding to continue your research after Uplift.
Application due 9/22/23
Info Session & Application Tips
We've invited Evan Ferg from the Career Center to host two workshops to support you in crafting your personal story for the Uplift application and beyond! STEM Routes representatives will also be present to answer any technical questions you have about the application. We highly recommend attending at least one of these sessions to support your application to the Uplift program.
THURS 9/7 @ 12:30–1:30 p.m.
Virtual via Zoom (RSVP for link)
This virtual session will focus on how to develop your personal story and then adapt it to the Uplift application questions. Much of this content will be theoretical; there is no need to have anything prepared for this session.
WED 9/13 @ 3:30–4:30 p.m.
In-person in the BOLD Center (Engineering Building)
Building off of the previous virtual session, this in-person workshop will help you finalize your Uplift application and personal narrative. Evan and STEM Routes representatives will be available to review your application materials and help your strengthen your answers.
