Lay counselors could help fill treatment gap for global, postpartum depression

Does psychological counseling need to be delivered by a psychologist to be effective? Not necessarily, according to a provocative new line of research involving CU Boulder psychology professor Sona Dimidjian that suggests an army of trained “lay counselors” could someday provide a solution to the global mental health treatment gap.

Meditation outperforms meds on postpartum depression

Pregnant and postpartum women at risk of depression are less likely to suffer depression when they meditate or get in a yoga pose than when they are treated with psychotherapy or antidepressants, a study led by CU-Boulder researchers has found.
