Giving in Action: Theatre & Dance

Every gift to the Department of Theatre & Dance makes a difference. Your donation helps our students succeed, opens avenues for innovation, and funds research that benefits our communities among numerous other avenues that matter most to our donors, students or faculty.

Your generous support of the Department of Theatre and Dance helps us innovate and connect with our post-COVID world, see our students energized by new creative explorations, implement industry-standard resources, and enrich and redefine the educational process—all while following DEI initiatives and acknowledging the merit of embodied art as an academic principle. A great example is seen in the current renovation of our large, proscenium theatre—thanks to the generosity of benefactor Roe Green—bringing that facility the latest in acoustical advancement. We grow as our students grow, thanks to all of your support.

The program at CU Boulder is tremendous in its encouragement to always submit for opportunities beyond Boulder. I pursued one such invitation for paper submissions to the American Literature Association’s Thornton Wilder panel. I was humbled and delighted to discover my paper selected and that I was invited to speak on a panel in Boston in July. The Wolle Grant enabled my ability to purchase plane tickets, conference registration, and a modest hotel near the conference which was truly perfect! The expense of attending this conference would have been too high at the time for me to budget entirely. I am deeply appreciative of the generosity as this allowed me to experience not only my first academic conference but to sit upon a panel and deliver my paper.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Our department has been galvanized by the nationwide awakening and reawakening of the racial issues in our country. We are so thankful that our donors have been able to support and augment the possibility of us having a more diverse group of students and artists. Below are three recent projects that we have undertaken in our department thanks to donor support.

The Roe Green award

The Roe Green award makes it possible for more students to travel and deepen their work and scholarship through that travel.

The Riddle award

The Riddle award on the theatre side is for a student who did a brilliant job in performance and the Riddles' engagement has a layer of mentorship as well.

The Salsa award

The Salsa Award for events is given by a donor who has passion for the arts and sees how the arts transmit compassion.

The Pokoik Guest Artist Fund

The Pokoik Guest Artist Fund has often been used to fund guests, particularly in dance, who engage with our students in interdisciplinary ways.
