Moving thousands of students around campus each day, the Buff Bus, Discovery Express, Stampede and HOP services are key cogs in CU Boulder’s transportation program. 

Buff Bus Campus Routes

The Williams Village/Bear Creek and Athens North buses are administered by PTS and sponsored by Housing and Dining Services. The campus shuttles connect students living in Williams Village, Bear Creek and Athens North to main campus and operate through the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. The Williams Village/Bear Creek bus route[1] operates Monday - Sunday throughout the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. The route runs clockwise with stops at Bear Creek, Williams Village, Engineering Center, C4C, IMIG Music, Physics, Math and Colorado/30th Southside. Hours of operation are: Mon. - Fri. from 7:00 am - midnight, Sat. & Sun. from  10:00 am - midnight, with Late Night Transit Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from midnight - 3:00 am.

The Athens North bus route[1] operates Monday - Sunday throughout the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. The route runs clockwise, and stops at Stadium Plaza, Technology Learning Center and Athens North. Hours of operation are: Mon. - Fri. from 7:00 am - midnight and Sat. & Sun. from 10:00 am - midnight.

Discovery Express 

The Discovery Express is a campus shuttle route connecting main campus to east campus. This route supplements the Stampede service. During the summer it runs a continuous loop route Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Beginning August 28, 2017 the Discovery Express will operate Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, with no Saturday/Sunday service.This express route services four stops: two stops on Discovery Drive, one on Innovation Drive and one stop on eastbound Colorado Avenue, just east of Benson Earth Sciences. This schedule will be updated Monday, August 28th when fall semester classes begin.

 

The Discovery Express route[1] runs a continuous loop route from Discovery Drive/East Campus to Benson Earth Sciences/main campus to accommodate faculty, staff and students needing to attend/teach classes at Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building and SEEC. The route operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Beginning August 28, 2017 the Discovery Express will operate Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, with no Saturday/Sunday service. This express route services four stops: two stops on Discovery Drive, one stop on Innovation Drive and one stop on eastbound Colorado Ave. east of Benson Earth Sciences.

The Stampede 

The Stampede is an RTD bus offering transit between CU Boulder's main and east campuses. Visit the RTD Stampede webpage for specific details. Runs M-F, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, every 10-15 minutes. 

Short Runs 

During peak morning hours, additional Stampede eastbound and westbound “Short Runs” are provided.  The Short runs have a truncated route on East Campus.  

  • Eastbound Short Run - buses that indicate “Innovation/Discovery Dr” on their marquees follow the regular Stampede route from 18th and Colorado, but once on East campus turn onto Discovery Drive from Colorado.  These routes end at Discovery Drive and will not continue on to Marine Street.
  • Westbound Short Run - The westbound short-runs begin at the JSC Biotechnology stop on Innovation Drive before traveling westbound on Colorado Ave. Bus marquees will display the destination as “18th & Euclid”, the same as all other westbound Stampede buses.

HOP

The HOP bus route is a bi-directional loop that connects campus with downtown Boulder and the 29th Street Mall.  For bus stop locations and details, visit the City of Boulder's website, or link to the CU Bus Tracker app on the right side of your screen.

Football & Basketball Buff Bus Reroutes

On football game days both the Williams Village/Bear Creek bus and the Athens North bus alter their routes one hour before football games to one hour after the game. The Williams Village/Bear Creek Football Reroute[1] runs clockwise, and stops at Williams Village, C4C, Regent, Colorado & 30th and Bear Creek. The Athens North Football Reroute[1] runs from Athens North along Broadway to UMC and returns to Athens North.

On basketball game days, the Williams Village/Bear Creek bus alters its route one hour before the game to one hour after the game. The Basketball Reroute[1] runs clockwise, and stops at Williams Village, Regent/Broadway, IMIG, Physics, Math, Colorado & 30th and Bear Creek.

Reduced/No Service

There will be certain times during the fall and spring semesters when the Buff Bus runs on a limited schedule or does not run at all. When limited service or no service will be provided, Parking and Transportation Services will keep you updated with the schedule.

No Service: All campus holidays and summer.

Reduced Service: Beginning of semesters, finals and campus closures.

The Norlin Express provides limited service from Williams Village directly to Norlin Library from midnight to 2:00 AM during finals week.

Lost & Found

If you lose an item while riding the Buff Bus you may check with any bus driver, on the same day, to see if it has been turned in. Items found on the buses and not claimed will be turned into Transportation Services' main office at the end of each day. Items will be kept for 30 days after which all unclaimed items will be donated or discarded.

Storm Tips & Delays

Certain areas become impassable during storms and construction and the Buff Bus may need to use alternative routes. Follow CUBuffBus on Facebook and Twitter for delays due to traffic and weather.  You can also text "followCUbuffbus" to 40404 to subscribe to Twitter.

  • Board the bus 30 minutes prior to your class start time to allow yourself enough time to arrive on campus.
  • During snow and inclement weather leave earlier for class times.
  • During inclement weather, dress accordingly.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. If something doesn't seem right, alert your driver.
  • If the University of Colorado is closed, there may be no Buff Bus service.
