Faculty/Staff Commuting Options for Move-in 2025
The university thanks you in advance for supporting students and their families during Move-in Sunday, August 17 through Tuesday, August 19.
Each year, the campus works to eliminate Move-in traffic impacts by limiting vehicles driving on campus. With less traffic entering and exiting campus, the plan has been successful. Move-in will be based on students’ residence hall locations.
Permit holders, commuters and those using meter/pay station parking should plan for closures/restricted access to main campus parking lots Sunday, August 17 through Tuesday, August 19. Make your plans now to use alternate transportation to get to campus or take advantage of alternate work arrangements. Please Note: There will be significant Parking Closures for Thursday-Sunday August 21-24 for Fall Welcome Events.
- Parking Services will issue permit holder email notifications identifying parking restrictions/closures in their parking lots.
- Regent Drive and Colorado Avenue (east of the Colorado Avenue/Folsom Street intersection) will be restricted to vehicles displaying "Move-in" permits from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day Sunday, August 17 through Tuesday, August 19.
- East Campus parking lots (Marine Street and Discovery Drive) will not experience closures during these times.
How will this affect you?
View an FAQ of common employee questions about parking during Move-in.
If you normally drive to work or if you have meetings scheduled during Move-in dates, parking lot closures will require you to plan ahead. Following are alternative options to consider:
Bus
- Campus employees can use their university issued EcoPass. To pre-plan your route visit RTD's website and use the RTD Trip Planner to view available routes. Park free at one of the RTD Park-N-Ride lots and ride a bus to/from campus. Download Transit to your smart phone so you'll know when your next bus will arrive!
Bike
- Riding a bike to work is easier than you think, with some pre-planning. Biking to work could include one leg of the trip on the bus, or driving part way, then biking onto campus.
- Boulder B-cycle is a non-profit bike sharing program with 14 stations on campus. Faculty and staff can register to receive a 50% discount on their annual pass. Learn more and sign up for Boulder B-cycle on our campus bike sharing page.
Telecommuting
- Investigate how your job responsibilities can be performed from home or on an alternate work schedule through Employee Services.
Vacation time
- Check with your supervisor. If your job doesn’t involve Move-in, and you have vacation time, this may be a great time to take a break from work.
You might even wish to volunteer!
- Join the tradition of welcoming students and families to CU Boulder by volunteering for Fall Welcome. Opportunities include helping students move in, navigate campus, engage in signature events and more.
Tips and Resources
- Ask for tips from friends and colleagues who use alternate commute options.
