ENVD Seniors Staphanie Bigelow and Bill Shrum designed and helped build the interior for Spark Boulder over the past 8 months. "Spark Boulder is a space for entreprenuership, designed and created by students to foster creativity, cultivate talent, and accelerate innovative idea. Spark Boulder is a student entreprenuer's playground that will allow Boulder and the University of Colorado to remain at the forefront of student innovation and entreprenuership".

On February 6, ENVD students and an ENVD graduate served as graphic illustrators during the City of Boulder’s Bike/Walk Summit, enabling the city to bring the Co-Design process for participatory design from Vancouver, Canada to the United States. The originator of Co-Design, Canadian architect Stanley King, and his colleague artist Susan Chung, presented this process during the ENVD Fall Lecture Series last November.

Pyatt and students spent two summers at Pine Ridge to help construct energy-efficient demonstration houses designed and conceptualized by students in the NASHI service-learning course. Each structure -- strawbale, optimized wood frame, compressed earth block, and SIPS (structural insulated panels) -- is designed to be energy efficient and appropriate for the variable climate.

ENVD Professor Kevin Krizek is one of seven CU-Boulder faculty to receive a 2013-13 Fulbright grant. Krizek, who also is outreach and education coordinator and transportation fellow at the CU Environmental Center, currently is in Bologna, Italy.
