Calculating the amount of information in a message

"Our next meeting will be ... "
Amount of information depends on how many possible dates (the more possible dates, the more uncertainty about which one).
Bits of information (binary digits) = smallest average number of yes-no questions you would have to ask in order to reduce the alternatives to just one, so no uncertainty remains.
