Demonstration speech
Select a topic to demonstrate (Osborn/Osborn, Chapter 5). Note that no food, drink, pets or weapons may be brought into the classroom. Give careful thought to how your topic can be demonstrated and what types of visual aids or other materials will be needed. Osborn/Osborn discuss types and uses of visual aids in Chapter 9. Notify your teacher of an visual equipment needed at least one class meeting before your speech. Develop a full-sentence outline using the 3-part framework. Pay special attention to the introduction (include an attention-getter and a preview) and conclusion (include summary and closing method), and that main points are organized to best demonstrate your topic. Osborn/Osborn discuss speech designs in Chapter 12 and effective introductions/ conclusions in Chapter 7. For this speech, the outline counts as 20 percent of your overall speech grade.
