<p>LONDON— For the second consecutive Olympic Games, there will be a University of Colorado student-athlete in the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase as senior Emma Coburn easily advanced on Saturday morning.</p>
<p class="p1">She follows in the footsteps of former Buff Jenny (Barringer) Simpson who finished ninth in the event at the 2008 Beijing Games.</p>

<p>University of Colorado Boulder researchers will be watching closely when South African bilateral leg amputee and sprinter Oscar Pistorius, dubbed “The Blade Runner,” makes his way to the starting block for the 400-meter sprint in the 2012 London Olympics.</p>

<p>Boulder city officials today announced that the annual Ralphie’s Independence Day Blast is canceled due to extremely dry conditions in and around Boulder. The fireworks show had been scheduled for Folsom Field on Wednesday, July 4.</p>

<p>The University of Colorado Boulder’s volleyball and basketball practice facility has received a LEED platinum rating -- the highest designation -- from the United States Green Building Council.</p>
<p class="p1">It is the first LEED-certified athletic facility on the CU-Boulder campus and one of only two platinum-rated athletic facilities in the Pac-12. LEED certification is a U.S. benchmark for sustainable design and construction.</p>

<p>On Sunday, May 20, Coloradans will see a “bite” taken out of the sun as the moon moves across the sun causing a partial solar eclipse. The eclipse starts at 6:22 p.m. with maximum eclipse at 7:30 p.m. and the sun will set at 7:50 p.m.</p>

<p>The University of Colorado Boulder topped two leader boards in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2011 Game Day Challenge -- a national competition to eliminate waste generated at college football games.</p>
<p>CU won the 48-school “Diversion Rate” and 17-school “Organics Reduction” categories in the EPA’s NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision contest.</p>

<p>The University of Colorado Buffaloes will play the University of Southern California Trojans on Friday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. at Folsom Field. Folsom Field will open at 5:30 p.m. for the first-ever Friday night game, which will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN 3D.</p>

<p>The University of Colorado Boulder will host the Buff Essentials program Sept. 26-30 with numerous events designed to provide support for students a few weeks into the fall semester as they begin adapting and integrating into the CU community.</p>

<p>The University of Colorado Buffaloes vs. Cal-Berkeley Bears football game at Folsom Field on Sept. 10 is technically a nonconference game, but most in the campus community recognize that it's the beginning of a new era.</p>

<p>The University of Colorado Academic Progress Rate (APR) report based on information for the four year period between 2006-07 and 2009-10 was released by the NCAA Tuesday with those of all other Division I schools, with CU's news good across the board, including rates that are the highest in school history since the program was created seven years ago.</p>
