Colorado Advantage Graduate Preview Weekend

The Colorado Advantage Graduate Preview Weekend is sponsored annually by the Colorado Diversity Initiative, and is intended for college seniors, recent graduates and masters degree students interested in pursuing a STEM doctoral degree at the University of Colorado Boulder. This year's program dates are yet to be determined, but we hope to begin accepting applications in August.

SMART Program

The 2021 SMART Program dates are May 31 to Aug 6. (May 31 is Memorial Day, so the first day of the program will be June 1.) This year we will again host the program remotely. Ten students and one affiliate have been accepted, and th program is now full.

SMART students work hard and play hard
The University of Colorado Boulder offers 10-week summer research internships for rising juniors and seniors through the Summer Multicultural Access to Research Training (SMART) program. The program aims to improve access to STEM research for racial/ethnic groups which are underrepresented in science, math, and engineering (African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian/Alaska Native/ Native Pacific Islander), and for first-generation college students who are economically disadvantaged. Students with disabilities are also welcome to apply. The internships provide hands-on experience in research and an introduction to graduate education at a leading university. Fifteen to twenty undergraduates from institutions nationwide take part in this challenging and informative program each summer.

SMART interns conduct research projects in science, math, and engineering fields under the guidance of a faculty mentor and see firsthand graduate student life at a major institution. Interns also interact in the social environment of a large university and in a community of underrepresented peers.

For the 2021 SMART Program, applicants must apply through the Leadership Alliance Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) before they can be selected for SMART. SMART students will be chosen by CU faculty from the pool of accepted applicants to the Leadership Alliance SR-EIP. Please go to the Leadership Alliance SR-EIP website for more information on how to register and apply.
