Get ready for the fair
First, spend time doing some research before the fair to learn about organizations that will be attending.
-
Browse BuffConnect to learn about student organizations at CU Boulder.
-
Visit the Volunteer Resource Center to learn about volunteer opportunities in the Boulder community.
-
Take the Involvement Quiz to get a sense of what organizations you might be interested in.
As you browse, start making a list of organizations you’d like to meet with at the Be Involved Fair.
Next, think about what you’d like to get out of joining something. Are you looking to meet people and make friends? Are you wanting to gain experience or learn skills that you could add to your resume? Or are you hoping to spend time on a favorite hobby or interest? Take note of your goals for getting involved—this can help you narrow down your options later if needed.
Finally, come up with some questions to ask representatives of each organization to learn more about if it will be a good fit for you. Here are some examples:
-
What does your organization do?
-
What does it look like being a part of your organization?
-
What kind of time commitment is there to be involved with your organization?
-
When do you meet?
-
Where are you located?
-
What resources does your organization have for students?
-
What do volunteers do at your organization?
-
How can I sign up to get involved?
Bring your schedule with you the day of the fair to make sure meeting times don’t overlap with other commitments you may have.
And finally, go with an open mind. You never know what might speak to you when you get there.
