Staff Council coordinated folding of peace cranes at the Diversity and Inclusions Summit in November 2019. Summit participants were asked to take a few moments to engage with each other, write a message of hope on the origami paper, and then fold the message into a crane. The hope was to eventually create a mobile to display at the Spring 2020 summit. Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, this could not happen.

Thanks to a 9 News Next article, about 100 folded colorful cranes – many with messages inside – were delivered to the 7/20 Memorial on Saturday, July 24 and added to the 7/20 Foundation’s Paper Crane Peace Project.  The cranes were presented to Foundation CEO Heather Dearman by Staff Council member Betty Rasmussen. Heather was very excited to receive the donation. The 7/20 Memorial Foundation will send the cranes collected in the box to other communities in need of support.
