A Collective Effort for Systems Transformation

OUR VISION AND GOALS

This initiative brings together educators, researchers, policymakers, funders, and community leaders to reimagine the R&D infrastructure supporting P–20 education. We aim to build a more connected, responsive, and practice-centered ecosystem that supports real systems transformation.

Supported by the Spencer Foundation (March 2026–May 2027), we aim to:

  • Build community across boundaries: Connect people and organizations across research, practice, policy, and community for shared learning.
  • Co-design a shared vision: Develop guiding values, tools, and ideas for a more responsive R&D infrastructure.
  • Lay the groundwork for action: Identify pathways for partnerships, advocacy, and implementation at local, state, regional, and federal levels.

OUR APPROACH

Phase 1: Grounding

March - August 2026

  • Establishing teams
  • Scan R&D models in other sectors
  • Develop flexible and adaptive tools for engagement

 

Phase 2: Moveable Feast

September 2026 - February 2027

  • Facilitation of collective sensemaking, critical reflection, and ideation across a wide range of perspectives
  • Gatherings, workshops and meetings co-hosted by with existing networks and conferences
Phase 3: Synthesis

March - May 2027

  • Synthesis of insights gathered across the moveable feast into a learning and action agenda
  • Engage moveable feast participants, decision-makers, and broader community in the emergent insights

What: Reimagining education research requires bringing together as many perspectives as possible. This virtual workshop is open to -- and needs --  everyone. We will engage in some collaborative, participatory activities together to critically reflect on the current practices, processes, and ecosystem of education research and development and begin to imagine what could be.
