An ethnographic film surrounding the small, isolated town of El Tule, Chihuahua and its culture. The heart of El Tule lies between the shared stories and simple daily routines meant to keep the town alive over the years.
Evelyn Palma (she/her/hers)
Evelyn Palma is a senior at the University of Colorado Boulder studying Media Production with a minor in Leadership Studies. A native from Denver, Colorado, Evelyn first fell in love with creative studies in high school as she found her passion for writing and storytelling as a form of self-expression. She found her way into CMCI as a sophomore in college and began to explore the many ways in which stories can be told in multiple different forms of multimedia. After college Evelyn hopes to pursue a career in creative work that can help bring representation to underrepresented communities. She hopes to continue to be able to find new forms of expression as she grows older.
Somos El Tule
An ethnographic film meant to be a family archive for my family’s roots from El Tule, Chihuahua, “Somos El Tule'' is a collection of stories, conversations and daily routines experienced after many generations of our family have resided there until immigrating to the United States. We return 1-2 times a year to immerse ourselves into the beautiful outdoors, surrounded by sunny, back to back cloudless days. From shopping at the local stores, cooking authentic Mexican food, storytelling Pancho Villa’s presence in the past and searching for hidden money, this film captures the beauty in the simplicity and hidden gems of this hidden 200 year old town in Chihuahua, Mexico.
