This short documentary is a chronical of the beginnings of my time spent journaling and the photos and memories I created along the way. In this film, I narrate entries I found to be pivotal in developing my personality and characteristics, starting in fourth grade up until middle school.
Makena Rhines (She/Her)
I was born in Colorado but raised in Florida. I am a senior graduating with a degree in Media Production and Sociology this year. I am the middle child with an older brother and younger sister; I have always been the one to make a mess or get into something. I have been practicing photography since I was 10 years old, and love to paint and draw as well. I am most drawn to vibrantly compelling photography or street/urban setting. I love plants, the outdoors, friends, family, and my 5-month-old golden retriever fur baby Pippa. I hope to continue a career practicing some form of art in the future.
Articles of an Adolescent
This short film is about my childhood diaries and the entries I wrote when I felt I needed to state my mind. I talk about friendships, family trauma, crushes, and school in these entries. I document the years with self-narrated entries and photos from my first camera. I go through the years expressing my feelings and updating no one, in particular. I created this project to help myself connect with who I was as a kid in hopes of understanding certain things about myself. I also created this journalistic video to show others that everyone has felt lonely, unpopular, ugly, or angry at times in hopes that others to relate. Growing up is hard, but the stories show that you weren't the only one who had these feelings at some point.
