Pod Technology

SQIQ Pod Overview

The S-Pods were developed by researchers in Mike Hannigan’s Laboratory at CU Boulder. Designed as the next step in a series of environmental monitors, the S-Pod primarily focuses on soil quality. These low-cost monitors are battery-powered and utilize a suite of embedded non-dispersive infrared, variable resistance, and resistance temperature detector sensors. The S-Pod is currently being used to allow students across Colorado to dig deeper and investigate their local soils through project-based learning.

The S-Pods work by utilizing individual sensors for temperature, carbon dioxide, and soil moisture that attach to the Pod. Light is measured with a sensor that is installed on top of the Pod.
