• Monday, September 16: Postdoc & Mentor Appreciation Lunch
  • The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is excited to kick off NPAW with a lunch recognizing CU Boulder postdocs and postdoc mentors. Grab your mentor and postdoc colleagues for an informal networking lunch. Awards will be presented for Outstanding Postdocs and Outstanding Postdoc Mentors, and postdocs who have completed a Professional Development Track will be recognized. The PAC Boulder, the volunteer group of postdocs on campus, will also recognize recent winners of its Travel Award program.

  • Come celebrate NPAW with fellow postdocs at the Fiske Planetarium, one of the most awesome attractions for the campus and community. Refreshments will be available from 5-6pm with a laser show from 6-7pm.

  • Come celebrate being a CU Boulder postdoc with your fellow postdocs, friends, and family. Rayback Collective is an outdoor/indoor gathering space with multiple food trucks, adult beverages, and games for kids. The social is organized by PAC Boulder as part of NPAW.

• Friday, September 20: How to Deliver an Effective Chalk Talk
  • To conclude NPAW, postdocs are invited to a workshop on how to effectively deliver a chalk talk, a mainstay of the academic job search. Dr. Serge Campeau, a professor in Psychology & Neuroscience, will offer best practices and strategies on how to deliver a compelling chalk talk.

Want to publish but find yourself getting caught up in other obligations? Planning on publishing one of your conference papers, but finding yourself running around in circles? Need a group to workshop your paper with?

The Graduate School and Office of Postdoctoral Affairs invite all graduate students and postdocs to join a 12-Week Fall Publication Bootcamp! Drop-ins welcome. While the outcomes of the bootcamp will be greatly improved with consistent weekly attendance, perfect attendance is not required.

Career Services will guide you through writing the academic job packet, including the cover letter, research, teaching, and diversity statements. Receive general advice about formatting and drafting these documents as well as what you need to know to tailor them to a specific institution or posting. We will also cover the postdoc application, including how to frame your research experience for a specific postdoc project, what to leave out of your job letter, and how to present yourself as a candidate.

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs invites postdocs to tune in to a webinar from the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD). All CU Boulder postdocs have access to NCFDD resources. Drawing on her own experiences on the alt-ac track as well as her research on the professional identities and career experiences of alt-acs, Emory University postdoc Brandy Simula will discuss strategies for maintaining an active research agenda.

Participants will learn how to negotiate for research support and resources in the context of alt-ac positions, how to build and maintain motivation for their research agendas, how to create writing accountability structures, and how to create time for research and writing in the context of an alt-ac position.

International Students & Scholar Services (ISSS) invites all international postdocs, scholars, students and and Boulder Friends of International Students (BFIS) members to a potluck picnic. ISSS will provide lawn games and some food. CU’s CHIP will be there to join the fun and games! This being a potluck, please bring a dish to share.
