Postdocs Invited to be CU Science Ambassadors

CU Science Discovery is now recruiting its fall 2018 cohort of CU Science Ambassadors. This opportunity is open to any STEM professional (including postdocs, faculty, graduate students, or community members) who might be interested in participating.

CU Science Ambassadors participate in a science communication program developed by Portal to the Public, a national NSF-funded initiative to prepare scientists and engineers to share their research with diverse public audiences. Portal to the Public (“PoP") scientists participate in two, fun and engaging training workshops, work with informal STEM education specialists to design and prototype a hands-on activity based on their research, and share their activity with the public at community outreach events. For more information about Portal to the Public, visit the website or click here to see the program in action!

To apply online by September 28, please visit: CU Science Ambassador Application 2018.

Benefits to participating scientists include:

  • Communication training and ongoing opportunities for public engagement.
  • Consultation and assistance in developing a materials-rich hands-on activity or demonstration that can be used in a variety of settings with a range of audiences.
  • Opportunities to network with local scientists and engineers and connect with a national network of institutions committed to public engagement.
  • Fulfill Broader Impacts and service requirements.

Thanks to support from CU Science Discovery there is no charge to participate in the fall 2018 program. Spots are limited, though, and applications are due Sept 28, 2018.

The fall 2018 CU Science Ambassador program will run from Oct 5th – Dec 16th, with additional community outreach opportunities happening throughout the year. Workshops and events are below.
