Before moving to Colorado, Brandon taught middle school science in Brooklyn, New York. He has also worked as a farm manager, biology instructor, research assistant in science laboratories, and teacher educator in university- and community-based teacher education programs. Soon after graduating from high school, Brandon realized that scientists don’t sit around in science labs doing worksheets and taking tests and that they are not all old anti-social white dudes working alone in their mad scientist laboratories trying to bring the dead back to life. He found his experiences working in science to be some of the most playful, generative, inclusive, creative, and collaborative moments of his life. Brandon is deeply interested in understanding how young people make sense of what it means to be and become a “scientist”, and how teachers can help foster science identity development in youth.
