Jools Gilson is an Irish Fulbright Scholar / Artist based at CU Boulder for the Fall Semester 2021. In Ireland she is Professor of Creative Practice in the School of Film, Music & Theatre at University College Cork. She is an artist, writer and educator who moves between the disciplines of visual art, writing and dance theatre. Her work is characterised by a poetic playfulness, a lively curiosity about communities, textiles and femininity and the climate emergency. Her work The Knitting Map (2005) is currently on exhibition at the Berman Museum of Art in Pennsylvania - Mapping Climate Change: The Knitting Map and The Tempestry Project. She is delighted to be a Project Advisor for Art + Science + Action at CU Boulder.

Her Fulbright project - Tempestries: Textiles, Tactility & the Climate Emergency is focussed on the ways movement and textiles shape a sense of place within an Irish context. In particular, it connects practices of textile hand making and the somatic experience of dress with climate. The project seeks to develop ways to creatively connect the ordinary and exceptional as a strategy of activism and performance and does so through a series of braided processes for wearing the weather.
