David Carrillo

David R. Carrillo, MBA, is an author, educator, speaker, and consultant whose life journey embodies transformation and resilience. As a teenager, he faced a prison sentence of life without the possibility of parole. He spent over 30 years in prison before receiving clemency. While incarcerated, he earned multiple degrees—including an MBA—and made history as the first incarcerated person in the U.S. hired by a university to teach college courses. Today, David continues to teach college courses to men and women in prison, is the founder of David R. Carrillo Consulting, LLC, where he provides expert insight on prison culture, plea bargaining, and higher education in corrections, he is a paralegal for the Korey Wise Innocence Project and lead facilitator of the Legislation Inside program, and he is the author of “Kiko: From Life Without Parole to Life with Purpose.” His memoir shares a raw and inspiring account of redemption, purpose, and the power of intentional change.
