Montez Butts
Director of Inclusive Culture and Outreach

Montez Butts serves as the director of inclusive culture and outreach at CU Boulder. His career of over 20 years has been in Student Affairs, Enrollment Management and Student Access, and Residence Life. His background includes equity, diversity and inclusion consulting and education and training for staff, faculty and students. Additionally, he has an outreach background as a committed partner in DEI efforts with local government entities such as Human Relation Commission, continuing education programs for teachers and school leaders, and nonprofit organizations. 

Originally born in Detroit, MI, along with his fraternal twin brother, his mother moved their family to Denver to experience a safer and better educational experience. Montez grew up in the Five Points neighborhood in Denver and graduated from George Washington High School. He is a proud first-generation college student who double majored and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology with an emphasis in criminal justice and a bachelor's degree in speech communication with an emphasis in human communication. Additionally, he earned a master's degree in educational leadership and policy studies with a concentration in higher education student affairs leadership. Montez identifies as a BIQTPOC and relational leader who believes the most incredible resource for any organization is its people, period. His passion is facilitating workshops and building capacity around social justice topics, leadership and community building.
