Summit Theme: The Power of Community: C.L.I.M.B. with Purpose
Tuesday, November 2, 2021
The challenges faced by our campus, nation and world have encouraged us to seek a greater purpose. The goal of the virtual summit is to continue to provide a foundation to help us build community resilience and to help us move forward together toward a more equitable environment using a growth mindset. We invite you to explore how self-reflection plays a vital role in cultivating inclusive excellence for students, staff and faculty while tapping into both your head and your heart.
C.L.I.M.B. refers to the goals and actions described in the CU Boulder Inclusion, Diversity and Excellence in Academics (IDEA) Plan, the campus’s blueprint for diversity, equity and inclusive excellence.
Summit Schedule
The summit will include a variety of interactive Zoom sessions where students, staff and faculty will discuss how together we can transform CU Boulder’s culture. Register at the links below.

“In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart is the power to do it.” – Marianne Williamson
Building on the foundation of Season 1, Season 2 of the “Boulder” Talk Show will creatively inform and empower our community to thrive. This session will help us to understand the complexities of humanity as guests share their journeys of healing and courage through storytelling of lived experiences. It will affirm our stories and connections, and show us how to be vulnerable while transforming into a “Boulder” version of ourselves.
Session One: 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The Change We Seek Starts with You! Creating, Cultivating and Inspiring Others Toward a More Inclusive Model of Leadership
With: Montez Butts
In this session, participants will be called to engage and share best practices, realistic challenges and commit to practicing one or more of the six C’s of Inclusive Leadership. By tapping into the collective wisdom of our heads and hearts in community with one another, we hope to inspire one of our most essential resources, our people. We each play an active role in making our campus a kinder, welcoming, and respectful place for everyone to thrive. Are you ready? We need you!
Session Two: 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Read the Room: Navigating Spaces with an Emotionally Intelligent DEI Mindset
With: Ysatiz Piñero
Empathy. Self-Awareness. Communication. These are important aspects of life, and more importantly, of Emotional Intelligence. In this session, you will learn how Emotional Intelligence is a key pillar in the bridge to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). We will work through ways to build understanding and bring awareness to action.
Session Three: 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Purpose With a Capital P: Living in Your Value
With: Anthony Siracusa
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman
When we seek our purpose in life, we can experience joy and have the ability to flourish. In this session, participants will explore those times and spaces where we discovered our value and self-worth. Together, we will find a way to climb toward our individual and collective purpose on the path to transform our campus.
Session Four: 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Remembering Your Power, Harnessing Your Voice
With: Jasmine Davis, Meha Khanna
Storytelling. It became my way to escape all the experiences that interlaced art and ache intimately. A way to burrow into places of peace when I saw people who looked like me be buried. And how traumatic that really is. To watch a live genocide. To grow up learning how to survive. And yet be told we are exaggerating what we have seen with our own eyes. And how hopeless that can feel. How powerless. I (Jasmine Davis) will present to you how to reclaim it and how to tell your story and/or the stories of those who deserved better (in multiple formats such as slam poetry, podcasts, music, diaries, speeches, etc). What you share is up to you, healing and hope begins with the safety to express and this is a space welcome to you for that. In solidarity.
