Transito “Tito” Torres was an outstanding activist and leader on campus who passed away in December 2009. He was a passionate, dedicated student who had plans to change the world. He was fearless in his pursuit for social justice and civil rights. He was often times the first leading an action, event, conversation, and/or demonstration to help change the minds of many.
Tito was an advocate and ally for many marginalized communities including LGBTQIA (lesbian gay bisexual transgender queer intersex ally) people. He has been described as a person who loved life, always had a smile on his face and was without a doubt, unrepeatable. He was someone who when you met him, you felt like you knew him forever. His openness, compassion, and love for those around him shifted this campus in the most positive of ways.
His leadership and activism inspired many on campus and will continue to live on. The purpose of this award is to support and recognize those CU Boulder students that embody the character and values of Tito and have made similar contributions to the campus community.
