Mission

As a volunteer advisory committee that consults with the Chancellor’s Office on a regular basis, the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Gender & Sexuality works to foster an inclusive campus climate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer-identified (LGBTQ) students, staff, and faculty.  In striving for campus inclusion, the Gender & Sexuality Committee focuses on building cross-campus collaborations, creating spaces for dialogue, supporting campus programming, as well as fostering and recognizing leadership and scholarship related to gender and sexual diversity.  The Gender & Sexuality Committee envisions a campus environment that has room for people to express and use the fullness of their humanity—including their sexuality, gender, gender identity and expression, racial and ethnic identity, and ability status—in their participation in university life.

2018-2019 Goals

We endeavor to create classroom and work environments that are welcoming and safe for LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff.  This includes an environment which ensures both respectful and equitable treatment, and in which performance reviews are non-discriminatory.

  • Improve the way in which new LGBTQ students are welcomed to the university and connected to relevant resources, and continue to ensure that LGBTQ students are supported in persisting to graduation.

We envision a campus that is physically welcoming to those of all gender identities, and provides safe spaces for faculty, staff, and students of every sexual orientation.

Recognizing that LGBTQ individuals are an important part of the CU Boulder community as faculty, staff, and students, we seek to ensure that all CU Boulder policies and benefits are equitable for LGBTQ individuals.

  • Given the reccent health care policy changes for transgender individuals, work with relevant departments to ensure that procedures and communication related to transgender health care are also up-to-date and adequately address the needs of transgender patients.

From CU’s LGBT Studies Certificate Program to other areas of study such as Psychology, Sociology, and History, we support the incorporation of and availability of academic programs which allow students to explore the LGBTQ experience in their studies.

We recognize that there are other campus groups who share some of our goals, and strive to reach out and collaborate with them on these areas of intersectionality.

We endeavor to conduct outreach to departments and support them in their efforts to enhance the LGBTQ-inclusive climate at CU Boulder.

Recognizing that what we count “counts,” we have a dual goal of reviewing what relevant data is collected and making suggestions for improvements in our campus data collection.

In order to attract and retain LGBTQ faculty, staff, and students we strive to build the university’s reputation by raising the visibility of pertinent CU Boulder resources, benefits, and efforts.

  • Include a more visible calendar and record of events, activities, and programming related to the LGBTQ community on the CU website.

Our goal is to have a variety of perspectives represented by our committee members.  We strive to include faculty, staff, and both undergraduate and graduate students.  We welcome members of all gender identities, sexual orientations, ethnicities, class backgrounds, religious affiliations, abilities, and professional expertise.
