Dr. Alaina Beaver is the Initiatives Director of Social Climate Strategy in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement and joined the team in September of 2017. Alaina previously held the role of Universal Instructional Designer in the Office of Information Technology where she developed the Universal Design Service to provide proactive support for faculty and staff in making digital materials accessible for all people, including people with disabilities. She earned two degrees from CU Boulder: a Ph.D. in Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction from the School of Education and a Master of Arts Degree in Literature from the English Department. Alaina has taught upper and lower-division courses for CU Boulder’s Program for Writing and Rhetoric for nine years. While completing her doctorate, she founded the Online Composition Hub in Continuing Education, which remains the only online support service at CU Boulder and has served students in over 1,700 collaborative learning sessions. Prior to her arrival at CU Boulder, Alaina spent two years teaching English in grades 9-12 in Title I schools in New York City. She earned a Master of Science in English Education from Queens College of the City University of New York, and a Baccalaureate in English from the Honors College at Ohio University.
