Dr. Alaina Beaver is the Initiatives Director of Social Climate Strategy in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement. She co-leads efforts related to making excellence inclusive across campus, including serving as project manager for the authoring and revising processes behind the campuswide Inclusion, Diversity and Excellence in Academics (IDEA) Plan, CU Boulder's first comprehensive strategic diversity plan in over two decades. Alaina is also an expert in accessibility and WCAG 2.1 conformance, having previously worked at CU Boulder's Office of Information Technology on Universal Design and disability advocacy. She earned two degrees from CU Boulder: a Ph.D. in Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction from the School of Education and a Master of Arts in Literature from the English Department. Alaina taught upper and lower-division courses for CU Boulder’s Program for Writing and Rhetoric for nine years. While completing her doctorate, she founded the Online Composition Hub in Continuing Education, which remains the only online support service at CU Boulder and has served students in over 2,000+ collaborative learning sessions. Prior to her arrival at CU Boulder, Alaina spent two years teaching English in grades 9-12 in Title I schools in New York City. She earned a Master of Science in English Education from Queens College of the City University of New York, and a Baccalaureate in English from the Honors College at Ohio University. She volunteers to co-run two highly regarded Boulder Meetup Groups: Boulder/Longmont UX Research and Boulder Accessibility and Inclusive Design.
