CU Boulder Provost Russell Moore today announced that all services, personnel and programs within the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement will move to the Office of Enrollment Management and the Office of Undergraduate Education. The move will be effective on July 1.

Moore said the moves were to “complete the process of directing resources toward expanded service for ODECE’s communities and constituents.” They include:

  • Pre-college outreach, engagement, scholarship and aid programs, as well as the administrative function of ODECE. These will move to enrollment management.
  • The CU-LEAD Alliance administration will move to the Office of Undergraduate Education.
  • The Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will assume primary responsibility for campuswide communication of DEI efforts and will serve as an initial input for university constituents seeking guidance and support related to campus DEI initiatives.

“The vital services of the ODECE are not going away,” said Moore. “They are being placed in offices where they can be combined with the efforts of key partners, better integrated with existing campus resources and positioned to serve more students more effectively.”

Moore said the moves are consistent with other changes that have occurred during the past year under the same guiding principles, including moving the Center for Inclusion and Social Change to the Division of Student Affairs, the inclusive culture team to the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor of Diversity Equity and Inclusion, and the Colorado Diversity Initiative to the Graduate School (currently underway).

“We intend that levels of service to students and communities in the short term will remain the same and, with time, improve,” Moore said. “The skilled and experienced leaders and staff of ODECE will continue their important work of providing help and assistance to prospective and enrolled students and to faculty and staff.”

ODECE was established in 2007 under former CU Boulder Chancellor G.P. “Bud” Peterson to facilitate equitable learning, teaching, research and creative work opportunities for students, faculty and staff, and to build a culture of belonging and engagement. It moved under the office of the provost in 2010 with an emphasis on scholarships and academic programs.
