Shouyi (Shawn) Wang
- Postdoctoral Fellow
- CIRES
Brief Bio: Dr. Shawn Wang joins the Oceans and Climate Lab in October 2025 as a CIRES Visiting Fellow to collaborate with Drs. Karnauskas, Jen Kay (CIRES/ATOC), Sara Sanchez (ATOC) and Antonietta Capotondi (CIRES). Prior to CU, Shawn was a postdoc at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) focusing on low-frequency climate variability in the tropical oceans and impacts on the hydrological cycle. Prior to WHOI, Dr. Wang received his Bachelors from Columbia University and Ph.D. from the MIT/WHOI Joint Program. At CIRES, Shawn's research will utilize a diverse range of tools and datasets including multi-model ensemble simulations of global climate, paleoclimate proxy records of past SST conditions, and Linear Inverse Model (LIM) experiments to understand the contributions of tropical inter-basin interactions to Pacific decadal variability across past, present, and future climates. Outside of work, Shawn enjoys racquet sports, skiing and biking.
