Captain Sean B. Murphy
Marine Officer Instructor

Captain Sean. B. Murphy graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program in May 2014. 

Captain Murphy reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia where he was assigned the Ground Intelligence Officer MOS. His follow-on training included the Infantry Officer Course, Scout Sniper Unit Leaders Course, and the Ground Intelligence Officers Course. After completing his training in 2015, he reported to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he deployed as a Rifle Platoon Commander as part of the Forward Deployment Program-East in Okinawa.

In 2016, Captain Murphy became the Assistant Intelligence Officer for 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines and deployed as part of the Black Sea Rotational Force in Romania under Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa.

In 2018, Captain Murphy reported to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines in Twentynine Palms, California and became the Battalion Intelligence Officer. He deployed as part of the Ground Combat Element for the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – CENTCOM, in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

He reported to the University of Colorado Boulder Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps unit in June 2020 where he currently serves as the Marine Officer Instructor. 

Captain Murphy is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School (non-resident) and the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Intelligence Collection Managers Course.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.   

 


Gunnery Sergeant Jeremy T. Matthews
Assistant Marine Officer Instructor

Jeremy T. Matthews was born in Rome, Georgia and grew up in Piedmont, Alabama.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in March 2005 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation, he attended school for motor transportation maintenance at Camp Johnson, North Carolina.

Following his MOS school, Private First Class Matthews was assigned to Motor Transportation Maintenance Company, 1st Maintenance Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as a Motor Transportation Mechanic and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In July 2007, Corporal Matthews was transferred to Combat Logistics Battalion 15, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton California where he served as a Motor Transportation Mechanic and tool room NCO and deployed in support of 15th MEU and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In December 2008, Sergeant Matthews was reassigned to Motor Transportation Maintenance Company, 1st Maintenance Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group to serve as Platoon Sergeant and training NCO.

In January 2010, he was reassigned to 1st battalion 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd, Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to serve as Maintenance Chief. He deployed again this time in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In October of 2013, Sergeant Matthews received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, class 1-14. Upon graduation of Drill Instructor School Staff Sergeant Matthews was assigned to Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.

In March of 2017, Staff Sergeant Matthews received orders to MWSS-374(-) to serve as a Motor Transportation Maintenance Chief until he was selected for promotion and for his post as Headquarters and Service Company Senior Enlisted Advisor.

In March of 2020, Gunnery Sergeant Matthews received orders to the University of Colorado Naval ROTC to serve as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor.

GySgt Matthews is married to his wife Gladys and has four children, daughters Aizlinn, Allyson, Arley, and son Luke.
