Class of 2020: Kira Linel Sarabia

Major: Psychology
Minor: Creative Writing

Future Plans: It has always been my goal to work at the Children’s Hospital in the inpatient Psychiatry Unit. That is the next goal I am working for, and I am so excited to begin!
Favorite MASP Memory: As hard as PEAC was, I have to say that was one of the best times I have had in my college career. Being on a college campus like that for the first time, struggling with classes with my new peers, and completing it! It was the foundation to my college experience, and I will forever be grateful for that

Advice for younger MASPians: "You only have this undergraduate college experience once! Don’t wait to explore and have fun. Enjoy it as much as you can, because it really did pass by fast. Have fun, laugh, make amazing life long friends, and go to class."

Alexa Speaking for Kira

To my dearest friend, Kira:

You were my first academic friend if that makes sense. You were the first friend I would talk to about classes, ask what classes you were taking next, studied with, shared notes with and the list can go on. I remember seeing you in our 8 am math class and thinking, “Next class I will sit next to her.” You were also my first bad influence when it would snow and you would tell me you weren’t going, so I wouldn’t either. Luckily, our friendship developed beyond the classroom and I am so thankful for that. I remember us saying, “I can’t wait until my degree audit is full of green boxes because that is a sign that we are done,” and here we are, done! Although I know our friendship is going nowhere and we will be friends for a long, long time, I will miss experiencing campus with you. I will miss getting C4C breakfast with you, getting overpriced Starbucks after an exam to treat ourselves, I will even miss studying for really hard exams with you- which I know sounds strange to hear from me.

Although we did not meet in PEAC, I think that the math class was the best way to meet you. I have watched you through stress, tears, happiness, and celebratory moments and I would not ever change that. Kira, you are a wonderful person and most importantly such a great friend I can’t believe you are my friend sometimes. You are the first to graduate from your family and they could not have gotten a better role-model to do this first. You were able to do all of this despite the struggles you have encountered and being away from home and all your siblings. From working crazy hours at the bookstore during finals week, making time to be with your family, and still keeping up with school, you can do it all! I am honored to have been part of your college experience and I can only hope I made it a little better at least. You deserve all the goodness in this world and nothing more.

As I said, you won’t be getting rid of me any time soon, so this is only another milestone captured in our friendship. You have amazing goals planned ahead that not only do I know you will be able to achieve, but I will be honored to watch you achieve. Congratulations Kira, first to graduate, but won’t be the last!

Love you lots,
Alex
