This is a stipend-supported internship for Spring 2024. Students will also have the option to receive credit for the internship through LGBTQ Studies. Students will be expected to intern 10 hours per week throughout the semester. They will receive a $2000 stipend upon completing their hours. Funds have been generously provided through the Thomas R. Stephens Support Fund.

Any CU Boulder undergraduate student with a 2.0 GPA and 30 hours of credit may apply for LGBTQ Studies Internships. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Undergraduate Certificate in LGBTQ Studies. Please note that you must be enrolled at CU Boulder the semester that the internship takes place.

Description

The Programs and Services Assistant Internships provides an opportunity for the intern to be integrally involved in OBC’s programming and support offerings for the LGBTQ+ community in an administrative support capacity. There will be opportunities to participate in program development and assessment as well.

Possible Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will vary based on interests and skills of the intern and the needs of the organization and community at the time. Possible responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Deputy Director and Director of Education and Research in supporting the programs and services staff.
  • Provide administrative support to ensure smooth operations of programs and services.
  • Assist with communications related duties.
  • Support community activities and events which may include: setting up chairs and tables (if able), speakers, lights, decorations, food, displays, etc.
  • Support tracking data and data entry related to events and programs (ie. attendance and expenses)
  • Must be able and willing to attend and work program events
  • Ability to be sociable and engage with community members in a positive manner

Ideal Candidates

  • Committed and enthusiastic about Out Boulder County’s mission and programs with knowledge of LGBTQ+ communities and issues, and are familiar with intersectional social and racial justice theory.
  • Someone who has significant experience with the queer and/or transgender community
  • Straightforward and self-assured; one who shares information readily; listens as well, takes feedback, and respects the abilities of others; diplomatic and empathic
  • A team player; able to work cohesively with others and perform related tasks effectively
  • Healthy interpersonal skills. One who listens well, speaks respectfully and assertively, honors diverse perspectives and is honest
  • Motivated and willing to work flexible shifts, including evenings/nights and weekends on occasion.
