Overview

The mission of the Latin American and Latinx Studies Center is to provide an institutional space for research, teaching and discussion on Latin America at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Its general purpose is to bring together CU faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and visiting scholars interested in Latin American and Latinx issues: recognizing the diversity of their interests and approaches, supporting their research, teaching, and studies, and strengthening their links with Latin America and with communities of Latin American origin in the United States. The goal of student participation in the the Latinx in Colorado Symposium is to build a vibrant Latinx student series of events that will continue after the symposium and that will be central to their experience of representation, visibility, and presence at the CU-Boulder.

Position

This position is a paid, part-time internship. It requires approximately 60-100 hours of work from Spring to Fall 2024. Salary is $16.00 an hour.

Help organize a one-day symposium at CU Boulder focused on Latinx in the Colorado Borderlands. We will invite speakers, artists, filmmakers, activists, musicians, and more. Students are called to help with organizing the events and propose panels and roundtables on different topics related to Latinx students at CU and beyond, including topics such as DACA/dreamer, queer Chicanx-Latinx, femicides, self-care, social justice leadership, and community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate room reservations, food order, and event planning
  • Assist with content on social media outlets and the web to publicize the symposium
  • Communicate with potential speakers and panelists about the event
  • Develop ideas for panel and roundtable topics for the symposium
  • Assist with program and event set up, staffing and other duties as assigned

Ideal Candidates

  • Self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Interested and well-versed about Latinx community of Colorado
  • Comfortable communicating with and coordinating visitors and speakers
  • Experience with using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to promote events
