- Research fellow

Kiyana Minooei (MA student in Media and Public Engagement) works at the intersection of media, international business, entrepreneurship, and strategic communication. She brings professional experience across startups and corporations in business development, marketing, branding, and communications, with work spanning Tehran, Dubai, Toronto, and Denver. She holds an MS in International Business from the CU Denver Business School. Drawing from both academic training and applied practice, she studies how communication systems shape economic legitimacy, public trust, and the visibility of institutional alternatives.
Her current research focuses on alternative ownership models that offer an alternative to dominant extractive business structures, particularly cooperative economies, employee ownership, and other democratic forms of governance. She is especially interested in how branding, narrative, and media strategy shape whether these models become credible, understandable, and adoptable within mainstream business culture. Through this work, she approaches communication as a main part of the infrastructure through which economic futures are imagined, negotiated, and contested.
