Course Topics

Researchers often use sample survey methodology to obtain information and make inferences about a large aggregate or population. The application of a wide variety of available sampling designs requires an understanding of some fundamental statistical concepts.

The main goal of this short course is to provide a rigorous introduction to practical methods involved in conducting a successful survey. Topics covered will include sampling methods, sample size calculations, questionnaire design, likert scales, data entry/coding and exploratory data plotting using the SPSS/PASW package.

Practical data will come from two surveys. The first is a previously published survey (Statistics Education in Nigeria: A Recent Survey). The second is a survey of class enrollees found here. Please fill out this survey before class.
