Course Topics

This short course provides an introduction to regression analysis, a commonly used method to study the relationship between a response variable and one or more explanatory variables. The course will focus on simple and multiple linear regression with both categorical and continuous covariates.

Topics covered will include the assumptions of simple and multiple linear regression, interpretation of the model, and model selection.  Graphical methods useful for understanding relationships and checking assumptions are described and illustrated using the JMP software package.   The course will end with a brief introduction to regression involving binary response variables (Yes/No or 0/1 outcomes) using logistic regression and count response variables (whole numbers) using Poisson regression.
