Course Topics

This short course will provide an overview of non-parametric statistical techniques.  The course will first describe what non-parametric statistics are, when they should be used, and their advantages and disadvantages. Then, three general categories of statistical testing will be covered:

  1. Correlation
  2. Differences between independent groups
  3. Differences between dependent groups

Within each category, the applicable non-parametric testing techniques will be introduced and compared to the analogous parametric tests.  Examples will be analyzed using JMP.  If possible (although not required), participants should bring a laptop with JMP installed.

Before you show up:

  1. Download JMP.
  2. Explain in your own words: power (as it relates to statistics), correlation, and the differences between independent samples and dependent samples.
  3. Define the assumptions of ANOVA.
