Course Topics

Researchers sometimes ask, “What is the best way to know [something about] my subjects?” Often, the answer is simply to “Just ask them!” Surveys are a popular research tool that come with easily-overlooked pitfalls. However, the thoughtfully and properly designed survey can ellicit very useful data and information. Once the data are collected, data visualization methods can provide the researcher with a next step in the analysis. In this course, the principles of error minimization and survey bias will be discussed. Topics covered will include sampling methods, sample size calculations, questionnaire design, and exploratory data plotting. Real-world examples will be presented.
