CU Boulder is one of four member universities whose research expertise recently was selected for funding to look into student-athlete health and well-being.

The Pac-12 Conference, which created the funding program in 2013 and announced the most recent round of grants on Tuesday, is backing the upcoming studies with $3.9 million total. The purpose of the grants are to “explore important student-athlete health issues including head trauma, overuse and injury prevention, cardiovascular screening, thermal management and hydration, and mental health,” the conference said in a news release.

Involving CU Boulder’s Department of Integrative PhysiologySports Medicine DepartmentDepartment of Psychology and Neuroscience and Public Health Program, the CU Boulder research will assess indicators of student-athlete health and wellness, integrate key information within the Pac-12 Sports Injury Registry Management and Analytics Program and implement and disseminate important best practices for sustainable student-athlete training and performance.

The other Pac-12 member universities whose research projects were granted funding include the University of Washington, Stanford University and the University of Utah.
