Josh has managed the Idea Forge woodshop and sewing resources over the last decade.
He studied mechanical engineering at Iowa State University, and gained industry experience in powertrain engineering, solar PV design, structural engineering, and CNC machining. He’s worked in both design and fabrication and enjoys collaborating with students throughout the process of dreaming up and creating their own woodworking and soft goods projects.
In any given week he's frequenting his favorite fabrication and engineering YouTube channels (Matthias Wandel, Marius Hornberger, Paul Sellers, Create, Fireball Tool, 3x3 Custom - Tamar, etc.), reading books from the woodshop library (James Krenov, Lost Art Press) and dreaming up hands-on workshop possibilities.
Josh grew up going on adventures in the forests and waterways of the Mississippi River Driftless Region and New England. The journey continues as he explores the nooks and crannies of Boulder County on his bicycle. When he's not at work, he can be found enjoying ancient grain sourdough from Moxie Bread Company, reading voraciously—including to his children, maintaining his fleet of aging vehicles, savoring the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, and singing tenor in the St. Luke Orthodox choir in Erie, Colorado.
