Edward Hayward received his undergraduate degree from Carleton College with a History major and minors in Latin American Studies, Russian, and Chinese. His current research focuses on Sino-Soviet-Japanese intellectual history in the early twentieth century, with a particular interest on the works of playwright and translator Sergei Tretyakov. His additional interests include classical Russian and Chinese poetry, immigration studies, and the role of historical evocations in mass social movements. He is also an avid fan of Russian, Chinese, Argentine, and Japanese rock music, especially DDT, Cui Jian, Fito Paez, and Back Number, and spends much of his free time learning how to play their songs on guitar!
