Alla Savelieva is a native of East Siberia, Russia, with a bachelor’s degree in Philology and Second Language Acquisition and a master’s in Diplomacy and International Affairs. Driven by a passion for international education and non-profit work, she has spent a decade working and conducting research in the South Caucasus. Alla is an alumna of Fulbright and Atlas Corps programs. A dedicated, CELTA-certified language educator, Alla has taught English and Russian as second languages. Currently, as a graduate student specializing in Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES), Alla serves as a Russian language instructor and lead teaching assistant. Her graduate studies at CU Boulder have included work on race and equity in U.S. higher education, territoriality and nationalism in post-Soviet countries, folklore of Russia and Ukraine, and cinema and art history. Alla is currently writing her master’s thesis on coloniality and subaltern identity as depicted in Banine’s autobiographical novel, The Caucasus Days, under the supervision of Associate Professor Olson Osterman. Alla’s research interests include REEES cinema, literature and culture, nationalism, and education topics such as academic literacy, project-based learning, identity, and inclusion and accessibility.
