German Major Nicholas Zyzda was awarded a Summer Fellowship from the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP). Nick receives the scholarship for a research project investigating the literary representation of madness in Georg Büchner’s 1836 novella Lenz. Drawing on psychological, medical, and literary discourses, Nick’s research approaches the systematic problem that the phenomenon of madness in the 19th century poses for the rational discourse of science. Nick’s research is supported and mentored by Arne Höcker, Assistant Professor of German.
