How to plan successful events

Whether your chapter is planning a recruitment event, social mixer or a fundraiser for your philanthropy, there are steps you can take to ensure your event is a success. Here are some tips for planning events this semester.
Plan early and intentionally
Members of Fraternity and Sorority Life are often heavily involved on campus in addition to being full-time students. If you want to plan an event, be sure to plan early! This ensures that you can notify members of event details and expectations well in advance. Planning early also helps you space events out and avoid planning too much in a short period of time.
Review campus policies
The Campus Use of University Facilities (CUUF) policy establishes the parameters for using the entire Boulder campus, which includes all indoor and outdoor spaces. One reminder for Greek organizations from the CUUF policy: all revenue generated by an event must be deposited into a CSI account. Be sure to review the CUUF policy before planning events. You can also review additional policies that may affect your events on campus.
Use campus catering
The University Memorial Center and all Housing and Dining Services properties are closed venues to outside food sources and other caterers. This includes the University Memorial Center, Center for Community, Kittredge, Village Center and residence halls. All food served in these venues must be arranged through CU Events Planning & Catering.
Promote your events
Once your event is planned, add it to BuffConnect to share with students and collect attendance numbers.
You can also send any promotional materials to fsl@colorado.edu for help with print and digital promotion!
