The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

 

Roberto Sánchez-Rodríguez is a professor at the Department of Urban and Environmental Studies of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, a research institute of Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology. He is also an emeritus professor of the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Riverside, and a former director of the University of California Institute on Mexico (UCMEXUS). 

His research has focussed on climate change, including vulnerability, risk, adaptation, cities and water; disasters risk reduction; the interactions between sustainable development, free trade and the environment; and transboundary environmental problems.

Sánchez-Rodríguez was a lead author in the fifth GEO5 assessment reports conducted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). He has participated in several initiatives of the International Science Council, United Nations Environmental Programme and United Nations Development Programme. Sánchez-Rodríguez is a vice chair in IPCC Working Group II during the sixth assessment cycle (2016–22) and a member of the Joint Scientific Committee of the World Climate Research Programme (2020–24).
