Kelly Smith named leader of Campus Business Services

Kelly Smith has been hired as the director of campus business services in Finance and Business Strategy (FBS). Smith started in this new role on October 16, 2024.

Smith previously worked in Student Affairs Business Services at CU Boulder where she led a team overseeing 30+ departments. She brings a wealth of experience in business operations, financial management, and strategic improvement. Smith reports to Kristen Alipit, director of organizational effectiveness and engagement, and joins Dr. Joanna Shaw, associate director of finance and business operations, on the Campus Business Services team.

Campus Business Services is a new office housed in FBS. The unit will create and oversee a unified support structure for business operations across CU Boulder. Born out of a request from COO Pat O’Rourke for “shared financial services” in Strategic Resources and Support, and leveraging expertise from across FBS departments, Campus Business Services will establish standardized practices for campus units on crucial activities including procurement, travel, property management, and compliance, with a focus on departments with limited resources. It will offer comprehensive training and support and ensure effective, efficient, and consistent fiscal practice across all campus departments.
