CU Boulder has named Brad Weiner the new chief data officer for campus, effective July 1. Weiner has been serving as the interim chief data officer since September 2021.

In an email to campus leadership, campus CFO Carla Ho’a described Weiner’s selection as the result of a highly competitive national search that yielded a broad and deep candidate pool.

“Brad’s experience and expertise leading data science and analysis initiatives coupled with his deep understanding and leadership within the ODA organization made him the ideal candidate,” Ho’a wrote. “I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to the search committee and the faculty and staff who participated in this important and successful process.”

Originally from Colorado, Weiner joined CU Boulder in June 2020 as the director of data science in the Office of Data Analytics from Capture Higher Ed, a Louisville-based ed-tech consultancy where he was senior director of data science. Prior to that Weiner worked in a variety of roles at the University of Minnesota, Vanderbilt University and the University of Kansas.

“I’m thrilled and honored to work with the incredible community of students, faculty and staff at CU Boulder,” Weiner said. “Together, we have important opportunities to advance our research, teaching and public engagement missions by strategically and appropriately leveraging data. I am ready, and I look forward to beginning this collaborative work immediately.”
