Carla Ho'a, CU Boulder chief financial officer, welcomes Derek Silva as the assistant vice chancellor for business strategy. Silva will report to Ho'a on the Finance and Business Strategy team, effective February 1, 2020.

In this position, Silva will research, explore, and initiate new revenue-generating opportunities for the university. Silva will serve as executive director for the CU Boulder Enterprise Corporation (CUBEC), and he will provide strategic oversight of the auxiliary service departments within Finance and Business Strategy—CU Book Store, Imaging Services, and Parking Services.

Silva has worked at CU Boulder as the executive director of Real Estate Services since August 2017. His duties included managing the acquisition of real estate assets and representing the university as both a tenant and a landlord in leasing arrangements. Prior to his time at CU, Silva served as assistant director of real estate for the University of Texas System (UT) in Austin, Texas and has over two decades in commercial real estate.

“Derek has played a significant role in advancing CU Boulder’s south campus and hotel conference center projects,” said Ho'a. “We are excited that his expertise and experience with negotiations and contracts will continue to benefit CU Boulder in the development of strategic, new business endeavors.”
