In Ethnic Studies, we value research that makes a difference in our communities. Our courses foster community empowerment through critical thinking, comparative analysis, oral and written expression, and keen understandings of social justice issues. Whether you are just beginning your journey through higher education or are seeking to pursue advanced studies, we offer a number of innovative and customizable paths.

Degree Programs

Machu Pichu

Undergraduate

We offer a major and minor in Ethnic Studies, a Critical Sport Studies certificate program, and numerous Study Abroad opportunities. Our courses cover the foundations of the field, as well as specialized topics in Chicanx, Indigenous, Africana, and Asian American Studies.

Teaching

BAM Program

This degree program offers students an efficient and rigorous path toward earning a bachelor’s degree in Ethnic Studies and a master’s degree in Education in five years. It represents our shared commitment with the School of Ed to educational opportunity, diversity, and engaged scholarship.

PhD Grads

Doctorate

We are one of the few programs in the country to offer a PhD in Critical and Comparative Ethnic Studies. Our students pursue projects that advance the field through their relationally-situated, yet grounded work across Africana, Chicanx, Indigenous, and Asian American studies.
