An Introduction to Daoist Literature and History

道教文獻與歷史

How to Apply

You should read carefully the NEH Guidelines, which explain the eligibility requirements and selection procedure in considerable detail.  In general, we have sixteen slots and they are to be filled by teachers of American undergraduates, which generally means faculty at colleges and universities but includes adjunct faculty and community college faculty.  We can also take up to two advanced graduate students among that number.

NEH Summer Scholars are awarded a fixed amount to help cover travel, lodging, board, and other costs.  Our participants will receive $2,700.  We have arranged for housing on the University of Colorado campus close to our meeting rooms at a reasonable rate.

The application is a cover sheet, a CV, a statement, and two names of references whom we can contact to find out about your work and training. Before you click the "submit" button, please print out the cover sheet as a PDF and add it to your application package.  Then click "submit." Because of the specialized nature of our seminar, we ask that your statement address the following points:

  1. your training in and command of literary Chinese and spoken Mandarin.
  2. how you would incorporate Daoism into your future research and teaching.
  3. what sort of text you might be interested in translating from the Daoist canon.

All of these materials should be sent to:
